Steps to share a printer with others on the network in Windows XP

To share the printer

Open up the Printers and Faxes option. Hit the Start icon, click on the Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware options and then tap the Printers and Faxes icon. Right-click on the printer which you wish to share and hot the Sharing button. On the Sharing tab, hit the “Share this printer” option and then type a share name for the specific shared printer. If one is sharing the printer with others by using different hardware or different operating systems, then according to Brother Printer Technical Support number professionals, click the Additional Drivers option. Tap on the Environment button and click the OK button to install the additional drivers.  Click on the OK button

 To stop sharing the printer

Open the Printers and Faxes option. Click the Start icon, and tap the Control Panel. Next again click the Printers and Other Hardware option and then hit Printers and Faxes option. Right-click on the printer which you want to stop sharing, and then hit the Sharing icon.  On the Sharing tab, just click on the “Do Not share this printer” icon.

To connect to a printer on network

Open the Printers and Faxes icon just hit the Start button and then click on the Control Panel. Click the Printers and Other Hardware icon, and then tap the Printers and Faxes option. Under the Printer Tasks, just click the Add a printer option to open the Add Printer Wizard, and then tap on the Next. Click on the network printer, or a printer attached to another computer, and click on the Next option.

Three Ways to Connect to a Printer on a Network

This step discusses about searching for a printer in Active Directory. Click on the Find a printer in the directory, and then hit the Next button. Click on the Browse icon located just next to the right Location and click on the printer location. Hit the OK button. Click the Find Now option. Click on the printer which you wish to connect to, and then tap the OK button.


To locate a printer by typing the printer’s name

Click on the Connect to this printer icon. Type carefully the printer name by using the format: \printserver_nameshare_name and then users are needed to browse it on the network. Click the Next hit the Shared printer’s options. Click on the Next button.

To connect to an Internet or intranet printer

Click on the Connect to a printer option which is located on the Internet. Type the URL to the printer by typing http://printserver_name/Printers/share_name/.printer. Next, follow all the instructions on the screen to easily finish connecting to the network printer.
